En "Supergirl" hallamos a una Kara Zor-El que ya se ha dado por vencida y perdido toda la esperanza de vivir, y ahora se dedica a viajar a planetas con sol rojo para poder emborracharse y escapar de su realidad. Luego nos enteramos que estos viajes se deben a la celebración de su cumpleaños número 23, que celebra junto a su perro Krypto.
In Supergirl, we meet a Kara Zor-El who has already given up and lost all hope of living, and now spends her time traveling to planets with red suns so she can get drunk and escape her reality. We later learn that these trips are part of her 23rd birthday celebration, which she spends with her dog Krypto.

Although the film is directed by Craig Gillespie, some of the action sequences reminded me a lot of James Gunn’s style in Superman - the film starring David Corenswet. On the other hand, the choice of soundtracks for some of those scenes didn’t fit well, which made them feel emotionless and vague—especially for the most important scene in the film. Something tells me that the direction and the screenplay weren’t on the same page, and it shows.
En otra escena conocemos a Krem de las Colinas Amarillas, el temido líder de los piratas espaciales, quien ataca a la familia de Ruthye. Más tarde, Krem envenena a Krypto y, al ser el único que tiene el antídoto, obliga a Kara a unirse a Ruthye para perseguirlo. Este viaje nos llevará a conocer el origen de Kara, cómo fue la destrucción de Krypton y qué es lo que finalmente la motiva a convertirse en Supergirl.
Aunque la película es dirigida por Craig Gillespie, algunas tomas de acción me recordaron mucho al estilo de James Gunn en "Superman" - la película protagonizada por David Corenswet. Por otra parte, la elección de canción para algunas de esas escenas no encajaban bien por lo que hacía que se sintieran sin emoción y vagas - especialmente para la más importante de la película.Algo me dice que la dirección y el guión no estaban en la misma sintonía, y eso se nota.

El personaje de Ruthye definitivamente fue creada con el próposito de ser la voz de la consciencia de Kara que la hace explorar su pasado, le permite contemplar y aliviar su luto de una manera distinta que la alienta a luchar por la justicia de otros - al muy estilo de Kara.
Disfruté bastante de la película, pero no puedo evitar mencionar que me pareció algo lenta. La actuación de Milly Alcock es fántastica, es cruda y emocinalmente maravillosa. Kryto es divino, pero es la misma fórmula narrativa que manejaron en "Superman".
Espero que más adelante le entreguen a Milly un protagonismo merecido.

In another scenario, we meet Krem of the Yellow Hills, the feared leader of the space pirates, who attacks Ruthye’s family. Later, Krem poisons Krypto, and since he’s the only one with the antidote, he forces Kara to team up with Ruthye to track him down. This journey will reveal Kara’s origins, the destruction of Krypton, and what motivates her to become Supergirl.

El personaje de Ruthye definitivamente fue creada con el próposito de ser la voz de la consciencia de Kara que la hace explorar su pasado, le permite contemplar y aliviar su luto de una manera distinta que la alienta a luchar por la justicia de otros - al muy estilo de Kara.
The character of Ruthye was definitely created to be the voice of Kara’s conscience, pushing her to explore her past, allowing her to contemplate and process her grief in a different way, and encouraging her to fight for justice for others - in Kara's particular style.
I really enjoyed the movie, but I can't help but mention that I found it a bit slow. Milly Alcock's performance is fantastic, it's raw and emotionally powerful. Kryto is lovely, but it's the same narrative formula they used in Superman.
I hope they give Milly the deserving leading role she deserves in the future.
